Last updated on July 21, 2020

The Organizational Level Health Assessment. Modern firms have become health-conscious, and the management has employed massive efforts to maintain healthy behaviors for all the employees. This approach is known as the organizational health assessment and seeks to explore the factors that affect employees’ well-being. Organizational level health assessment refers to the tools and processes that organizations use in gathering information on the factors that affect the health of employees at the workplace and evaluating strategies that can address the factors (CDC, 2015). Johnson et al. (2018) explain that the tool is beneficial because of the management because it helps design and formulates programs and policies to keep the workers healthy. The strength of the device is that it reveals the factors that affect the employees’ health and is central to the formulation of policies that promote healthy behaviors. Organizations need to understand these factors and the barriers that prevent organizations from promoting the workers’ well-being in the workplace. The management uses this tool to teach and modify the worker’s behavior to a healthy behavior change (CDC, 2015). However, the tool has weaknesses because it does not only achieve the intended purpose in the organization. An organizational health assessment helps the management implement data collection to understand the well-being of the employees and implement policies and programs that promote health in the workplace.

Examples of Organizational Level Assessment CDC scorecard is a tool that is design organizations to assess whether they have implemented a range of measures that promote a healthy workforce. The tool is beneficial to the management because it helps them have oversight of whether they have place measures to prevent employees from chronic diseases such as stroke, heart diseases, diabetes, among others. The online tool has two accounts—one for the employer and employees (CDC, n.d; Safeer et al., 2018). Both help maintains information about the levels of activity from the employer and employee side. In such a way, the tool can track the workers’ progress and come up with means of establishing a healthy workplace, tracking the practices and this tool can help the management come up with programs that promote a healthy workplace and know the best resources to help employees (Safeer et al., 2018).

Challenges

The CDC’s worksite health scorecard is an essential tool because it serves as a framework to help the organizations’ management examine the extent of the health promotion and how the workers have been adhering to the physical activity. However, it faces some challenges in implementing what it is required to undertake. The tool is essential in implementing health programs in the organization to help employees, but there are challenges that employers can face implementing the tool. For instance, organizations may not be performing all the measures indicated in the scorecard. Therefore it can fail to capture the appropriate picture of the organization (Safeer et al., 2018). Organizations need to explore the nature of challenges and design an effective way of overcoming these challenges.

Avoiding the challenges

Organizations need to ensure they are honest in filling the tool regarding the practices implemented. This can help the organizations knows the gaps and set the right path for the organization to implement the right programs.

Surveys

The management can implement the organizational health assessment with the help of a survey to understand the extent of health promotion strategies adopted. Various types of questionnaires can be used in the context of the organization, and these include Paper and Pencil Questionnaire (In-Person), web-based tools, focus groups, and face-to-face interviews. Each of the kind of approach has certain limitations and the strategies that can be employed to solve the challenge (Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, 2016). The use of the instrument can help the organization gain valuable information about the employee’s diverse health information to realize a particular policy. For example, the survey can be anchored to gather information such as the perceived health status of the individuals in the organization, access to various health services in medical institutions, and their health behaviors (use of tobacco, alcohol, diet and physical exercise) (Mosadeghrad & Esmaeili, 2017).
